BAGHDAD – Iraqi police from the Jisr Diyala local police station seized a weapons cache stored in a field near their police station, Nov. 3, 2008.
A local resident near Jisr Diyala observed suspicious people burying items in a nearby field and notified the local Iraqi police.
Jisr Diyala local police station and the IP commander, Maj. Kadhum, responded to the site of the suspected weapons cache.
Upon arrival at the site, the IP uncovered and confiscated six 60mm mortars and various amounts of belt-fed ammunition. After seizing the ammunition, Iraqi bomb recovery teams inspected and assisted the IP in taking the munitions from the cache.
"The bond between the Iraqi police and the people from the Jisr Diyala area demonstrates a strong trust between the IP and the people they protect, said Lt. Col. Michael Indovina, public affairs officer, 18th Military Police Brigade, Multi-National Division – Baghdad. "Situations where tips from local citizens initiating communications with the IP are evident of the bond through actions like this."
